Acer Aspire 5 – Really a Powerful Device?

While purchasing a new laptop most people get attracted by the look of the laptop. However, one must choose a laptop by seeing its functionality and weight. It is better to have a baggy laptop that performs well than a slim-looking laptop having a very low performance.

In Acer Aspire 5 you will find thick bezels around the display pairing with the smooth low-profile keyboard. However, this doesn’t mean that this laptop isn’t a good choice. This device is a perfect example of the value of money.

It might look like old school now, but it is a very powerful device that comes with an 8th Gen i5 processor along with 8GB RAM and a 1TB HDD. We get the support of Windows 10 Home on this laptop. So here is a detailed review of the device.

Build and Design

At the first sight, we could find that Acer Aspire 5 has a clamshell design, with blimp borders around the screen that look a little outdated. The portability of the laptop is pretty decent as the overall weight of the laptop is 1.8kg.

The 15-inch screen provides a resolution of up to 1920 x 1080. It is very bright, clear, and has good viewing angles. Along with this, it has a matte finish that helps to reduce glare and reflection. The webcam we get to see on the top of the screen support up to 720p. The image quality is far better than expected but it gets a little grainy if the light gets low.

Performance

The Aspire 5’s intel processor may not be very fast but it manages to provide octa-core performance with eight threads and a clock speed of about 1.6GHz with turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz. If you are considering this laptop for heavy usage then you might get disappointed. This device is good only for normal web browsing and streaming YouTube videos.

Battery life

The company claims that this laptop can provide power for up to 10 hours. On testing, we found that it could last up to 6.5 hours while watching movies and using light applications. However, 6.5 hours is not that bad at this price range. If you are not using Wi-fi then easy your laptop will give you full-day battery backup.

Sound and Connectivity

The built-in speakers are a bit frail. The sound quality is pretty decent for watching couples on YouTube. However, if you wanted to listen to some decent music then you need to plug in some headphones or external speakers into the audio jack provided on the right side of the laptop. Moreover, we could find the support of Wi-fi 6 along with Bluetooth 5.0 for wireless connectivity.

The Aspire 5 does not have USB type-C connectivity for charging. We get a 45W power supply that uses old school barrel connector. The keyboard feels very comfortable while typing. Moreover, we get to see a fingerprint sensor on the trackpad for security purposes. The only downside is the L-shaped power connector which sticks out from the side of the laptop and looks a little untidy.

If you are hunting for a budget-friendly laptop, just to carry out minimum work then this device could be the perfect choice for you.
