A scientific calculator is an essential tool for engineering professionals. It helps in solving complex calculations in seconds. Every engineer faces the dilemma of buying the right type of calculator. Scientific calculators are bought by engineering professionals during their college days, especially most of them buy these scientific calculators in their first year of under graduation (UG).

I am myself a chemical engineer currently in my third year of under graduation. I asked my batchmates, seniors, and juniors of different branches (including both circuit and non-circuit branches) about their views on factors they want in their scientific calculators. The top factors recommended by them are:

  1. Speed and accuracy of calculations
  2. Sleek and stylish design
  3. Light weight
  4. Display
  5. Price (Low cost)
  6. Warranty and after sales services
  7. Features
  8. Ease of use

I bought my first calculator in my Second Year of under graduation. During my first year, I used to borrow calculators from my batchmates while solving numericals and from seniors during my examinations. Most of my batchmates use Casio’s FX-991ES PLUS and FX-991EX CLASSWIZ. Few of the seniors used Texas Instruments TI-36X Pro. So, in my first year, I have used all of these scientific calculators.
