Design and Features

From the name itself, it is clear that Sony LinkBuds S is the successor of Sony LikBuds. However, this headset is completely different from its ancestors. The overall design is a little bit traditional that comes with proper canal fit and earpieces.

The linkBuds are a little smaller and lighter than other buds in the premium segment. The earbuds are available in three color options – black, White and ecru. The company suggests that LinkBuds is an all-day wearable product. It has a very secure fit with perfect noise isolation and the best quality Active noise cancellation. However, this time sony has integrated very small dynamic drivers in the earbuds. The outer surface is flat which allows an easy touch gesture for touch controls. The earbuds have IPX4 water resistance.

You Type C charging option with these earbuds. The charging case is very compact, and portable and comes with an indicator light inside the lid. However, you won’t find any wireless charging in the Sony LinkBuds S, which is disappointing. You get this feature in most of the TWS cases, at this price point.

The packaging box includes four pairs of soft silicon ear-tips, a USB Type-C charging cable, and of course earbuds. Other feature of the earbuds includes Google Fast Pair and multi-point connectivity.

Apps and Other Specifications

Sony Earbud gets to connected to its app handle to offer its premium features. The app is available for both iOS and Android devices. This app has almost everything you need on the Sony LinkBuds S, the only drawback we found was a lack of customizability for the controls.

The buds have 5mm, dynamic drivers, with frequency support of 20-40,000Hz with LDAC codec support. For better connectivity, you get Bluetooth 5.2 and support of SBC, AAC, and LDAC Bluetooth codecs. The headset also uses an Integrated processor V1 for better connectivity and ANC functionality.

Performance and Battery Life

You will get 5mm dynamic drivers and which is smaller than the drivers we get in WF-1000XM4. The Active noise cancellation in Sony LinkBuds S is very good, and there is major noise isolation and fit of the headset. There was a significant amount of noise reduction in indoor noise. However, there was fairly noticeable noise in outdoors. The music, audiobooks, and dialogue videos sounded best in noisy places at 50% volume levels.

If we talk about the battery life the Sony LinkBuds S was able to last about six hours of listing at 100% volume levels. The charging case can charge about two times. So we can conclude that in total it can last about 17 hours.

There are not many complaints about Sony LinkBuds S. It is well equipped and comes at a decent price range. It also a great sound quality without compromising comfort. The Sony LinkBuds S have tried a lot to make it a premium flagship earbud, however, they couldn’t. If your pocket allows you can check out Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 or WF-1000XM4. However, if the size is your major concern, then WF-LS900N could be the best option. It won’t disappoint you.
